JKA Medway Karate-Do was founded by Mr Savino Cannone, a Sandan (3rd Dan) JKA Black Belt with over 25 years of martial arts experience.

 

Savino is a holder of the JKA International Instructor D Licence and is committed to preserving and teaching traditional Shotokan Karate according to the standards and principles established by the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

 

His goal is to provide high-quality karate instruction that is accessible to everyone within the local community while maintaining the values, discipline, and spirit that make traditional karate unique.

 

Savino began his martial arts journey in Italy at the age of six, initially training and competing in sport karate. Following a break from training and a subsequent move to the United Kingdom, he resumed his karate practice, this time dedicating himself to the study of traditional Shotokan Karate under the guidance of Mahmoud R. Tashvishi Sensei (6th Dan) and Abe Keigo Sensei (9th Dan) JSKA.

 

Following the passing of Abe Keigo Sensei and the closure of Kei Shin Kan Dojo, Savino continued his pursuit of Karate-Do by joining the Japan Karate Association. After successfully confirming his previous grades within the JKA system in 2022, he was awarded the rank of Sandan (3rd Dan) by Sensei Masao Kawasoe, 8th Dan JKA, during the Windsor International Course.

 

At present, Savino continues his karate development under the guidance of Roy Tomlin MBE Sensei (7th Dan JTKI, 6th Dan JKA) and Ken Hori Sensei (6th Dan JKA & JTKI). He regularly attends national and international seminars led by Sensei Masao Kawasoe and other senior instructors from the JKA Headquarters (Hombu Dojo) in Japan. In addition, he is an active participant in squad training sessions, ensuring that his technical knowledge, teaching methods, and personal practice continue to evolve.

 

Throughout his karate journey, Savino has focused on practicing Karate as a Budo, developing strong and effective techniques while pursuing the deeper values of traditional Karate-Do. He believes that karate is not merely a physical activity but a lifelong way of life that fosters character, self-discipline, resilience, humility, and mutual respect.

 

 

Passionate about teaching, Savino is dedicated to helping students of all ages and abilities reach their full potential. His approach combines traditional instruction with a supportive and encouraging environment, enabling students to build confidence, resilience, fitness, and practical self-defence skills.

 

Above all, Savino believes that karate should enrich every aspect of life, helping individuals become stronger in character, better equipped to face challenges, and more capable of leading positive, fulfilling lives both inside and outside the dojo.
